Analisis Pengaruh End-to-End Encryption Terhadap Keamanan dan Kinerja Komunikasi Data pada Private Cloud Berbasis Raspberry Pi

The use of cloud computing as a medium for storing and exchanging information provides significant convenience in accessing data from various devices and locations. However, as the use of cloud services increases, the risk to data confidentiality during the network communication process also increases. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) in improving security, as well as finding out the extent of its implementation on data communication performance on Raspberry Pi-based private cloud infrastructure. This research uses a quantitative approach with experimental methods, namely through direct comparison of data communication metrics before and after implementing encryption. The research infrastructure was built using a Raspberry Pi 4 as the main server running Ubuntu Server 20.04 64-bit, Apache as a web server, MySQL as a database, and Nextcloud as a cloud storage platform. Security testing is carried out by observing the form of data packets obtained through the communication interception process. Meanwhile, performance testing focuses on measuring upload time, download time, latency level, average processor (CPU) usage and memory usage. Security test results show that the implementation of End-to-End Encryption is absolutely capable of protecting data confidentiality; All intercepted data cannot be read directly because it has been completely encrypted in ciphertext form. In terms of performance, implementing this encryption has had a measurable impact, namely increasing the average upload time by 12% and download time by 15%. Furthermore, network latency experienced an average increase of 25ms, accompanied by an increase in processor usage load of 10% and memory consumption of 8% compared to a system without encryption. Even though there is an increase in computing load and additional communication time due to the cryptographic process, testing proves that the system is still able to operate stably. Thus, End-to-End Encryption has proven to be effective in securing Raspberry Pi-based private clouds with measurable user loads and data volumes.
